Artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning are having a profound impact on our lives, but how are they influencing our engineering projects? This webinar will provide an introduction to these technologies and their growing role in civil engineering The following areas will be covered:
1. Introduction to artificial intelligence and how this relates to machine learning
2. Introduction to deep learning
3. Common AI and machine learning frameworks and where to get them from
4. Key deep learning and machine learning algorithms and their pros/cons
5. Applications in civil engineering drawing from presenters experience
6. IoT and digital twins and their growing importance
7. The importance of having good data and strategies for acquiring good data
This event is aimed at anyone involved in civil engineering who is interested in learning about these new technologies from an experienced data scientist and civil engineer. Attendees will get a grounding in AI and machine learning with specific application to civil engineering.
Presenters
Dr Mike Rustell EngD CEng MICE is an experienced civil/structural engineer and data scientist who has worked extensively in the maritime, LNG and nuclear industries. Mike initially worked as a Research Engineer at HR Wallingford before joining AECOM to work as a Maritime/Senior Maritime Engineer and then as the EMEA Lead for Data Science, helping to shape the global strategy for machine learning and data and working on global machine learning projects. Mike now works as a Lecturer in Structural Engineering at Brunel University London, teaching structural analysis and finite element analysis and researching design automation using artificial intelligence.
